Rabbit Cordless Telephone - PRE Mobile Phones!!
Rabbit Telephones - CT2
Rabbit was a British location-specific (Telepoint) telephone service backed by Hutchison. The Rabbit network was the best-known of four such services introduced in the 1980s, the others being Phonepoint, Mercury Callpoint and Zonephone. Although Hutchison had been issued a licence for Rabbit in 1989, it took until May 1992 before the service was launched. Telepoint services such as Rabbit allowed subscribers to carry specially designed (CT2) home phone handsets with them and make outgoing calls whenever they were within 100 metres of a Rabbit transmitter.
The service ceased in December 1993, only 20 months after being launched. Two thousand customers were with Rabbit at the time the service closed. The failure of Rabbit can be mainly attributed to the fall in costs of analogue mobile networks Cellnet and Vodafone, which also accepted incoming calls. Hutchison Whampoa lost around $183m from the failure of Rabbit but later went on to found the successful Orange mobile phone network.
Many of the Rabbit CT2 telephones were sold with a home base station as a home CT2 cordless telephone system and these continued to be used for many years after the closure of the Rabbit network.

The batteries were removed from the phone a long time ago to prevent leakage and I no longer have them. Sadly one of the battery terminals has snapped off so I am unable to test it. This one is in pretty good condition. It has no battery but does run off a standard mains adaptor (not supplied). It powers up but I am in a terrible location for TV signals (between two hills) so I can't pick-up anything to test it with, but the screen lights up and you get white noise out of the speaker just like a TV that isn't tuned it. This is as far as I can test it. Sold as described.

You are bidding on just the main unit.It has been tested by using a suitable 16v power supply (not supplied) and it comes up with the screen saying that it is unable to find the boot server. (It uses bootp). I have have plugged in a standard PS2 mouse and keyboard which both seem to work fine. Again these will not be supplied, just the main computer. This is as far as I am able to test. If you know of any further tests I can perform, please let me know.

I *think* it *may* have had a memory upgrade to 1 Mb but I can't remember for sure.(If you know a test that I can do to see, please let me know)
It comes some disks with software on them. Somemusic & midi related, various games, Sequencers, Copiers Disk (Very Useful!) and more.
The STFM version was brilliant for music as the STE was incompatible with a lot of software produced. So much so that I had so much trouble with my STE I sold it and bought a secondhand STFM instead and my troubles were over! This machine performed flawlessly in my studio for many years. A great computer.
The mouse is the original Atari Mouse.
It's also supplied with an external floppy disk drive (configured to operate as drive A as the internal one had disk reading problems), mains cable, quickshot joystick, TV cable and some other midi music catalogue.
It is fairly clean but could be cleaned up further if you have the time.
You get everything you see in the picture.
I have tested everything I can and it works fine. I even run a floppy drive cleaning disk through it to ensure the floppy drive is the best it can be.

It takes normal AA batteries, but when I tried the ones from my remote control it wouldn't turn on, perhaps they don't hold enough charge?, but it works on the PSU fine anyway ..

It is not, of course, the first pocket-sized computer. Radio Shack released its pocket-sized computer, the TRS-80 PC-1, over 9 years earlier, in 1980. The difference is, that the TRS-80 PC-1 is programmable only in BASIC, while the Portfolio is an MS-DOS compatible computer. " Information :
It is built around an Intel 80C88 CPU running at 4.9152MHz and runs a variant of MS-DOS called DIP DOS 2.11. It has 128 KiB of RAM and 256 KiB of ROM which contains the OS and built-in applications. The on-board RAM had to be divided between system memory and local storage (the C: drive). The LCD is monochrome without backlight and has 240x64 pixels or 40 characters x 8 lines.
There is an expansion port on the right side of computer for parallel, serial or MIDI expansion modules. It uses a card expansion port for removable memory, which is unfortunately not compatible with PCMCIA as it predates the standard. Built-in applications include a text processor, spreadsheet (Lotus 1-2-3 compatible), phone book and time manager. Additional applications were available to purchase as ROM cards which went in the card expansion port. Most text-based MS-DOS applications could be run on the Portfolio as long as they did not directly access the hardware and could fit into the small memory. (Taken from Wikipedia)

The Portfolio appears in the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, where it is used by the young John Connor to bypass security on an ATM ("Fedteller") with a dongle (Atari's Parallel Interface) and a security door keycard system. "The ATPL SIDEWISE BOARD provides an expansion of the SIDEWAYS ROM facility of the BBC COMPUTER, increasing support from four devices up to the maximum of sixteen supported by the OS. Each device may be either 8K or 16K bytes in standard configuration with some useful options selectable by links on the board. The socket for ROM number 15 has been split into two 8K sockets -15a and 15b- to allow use of 8K byte CMOS RAM chips and therefore provides support for up to 16K of SIDEWAYS RAM. The logic is arranged such that any write performed to the SIDEWAYS ROM area of the machine will access the RAM directly, irrespective of and without affecting the current ROM selected. The RAM may be read as a normal SIDEWAYS ROM by writing the appropriate number into the latch at HEX FE30, as performed by the OS.The most obvious application of the RAM option is in the development of SIDEWAYS ROM software, as the interaction with the OS may be checked out in the true SIDEWAYS ROM environment. The RAM option will also allow you to download SIDEWAYS ROM software from cassette or disc and then to run as normal. In standard form, SIDEWISE is supplied ready to PLUG-IN-AND-GO - no soldering being required. The board will accept 16K of RAM simply by inserting appropriate devices, but the battery backup circuit and RAM chips are available at extra cost as a kit from ATPL."

In reasonable physical condition (a couple of scrapes and marks here and there) but it doesn't seem to power up at all. I have plugged it in but no lights, whirrs or anything.
It may need connecting to the computer for it to work??
My hunch is that it has a power supply fault, but I have no time to look into it any further. This was part of a job lot of old computer equipment that I bought at auction, some of which worked okay and some of which was faulty.

The computer and cassette deck are in good condition but the box is a little tatty.
Supplied complete with power supply, cassette deck, 3 software cassettes, programming manual, cassette deck manual. There's no RF cable but these are easy to get hold of.
It has been tested by plugging it in and writing a little program. The cassette deck also seems to work but I couldn't get a program to load. Either the tapes have lost the data or I was doing it wrong! - I only tried for a couple of minutes and gave up!
A great example of this fairly uncommon machine.

The computer and cassette deck are in good condition but the box is a tatty and only hlaf of the polys are present.
Supplied complete with power supply, RF modulator, Phono TV Lead, cassette deck (boxed), 2 original software cassettes, introduction to basic manual, cassette deck manual, user manual, and various original commodore paperwork.
This is the EARLY version of the Vic-20 with the 2 PIN rectangular power supply plug.
It has been well tested, loading a few of the programs from the cassettes supplied. All loaded first time. You can see pics of the loaded software below.

A set of 10 RX50 5.25" Floppy Disks for a Digital DEC computer that has an RX50K Floppy Drive like the PDP-11 or similar.

IBM PS/1 Computer System.
Includes monitor, keyboard mouse, base unit and mains lead as pictured below. It is a bit grubby but can be cleaned up easily enough. The mouse needs some mechanical attention. It basically works but has a replacement ball holder underneath which is stopping the ball moving properly for some reason.
It has a DOS operating system yet with a graphical front end.
All the software is on the internal hard disk.
There is a small crack on the front of the monitor (top left) but its not very noticable and doesn't affect the operation. Could probably be superglued quite tidily.

Fairly clean for it's age. Good screen. Comes up with Boot instructions to insert a disk and boots into CPM with the right disk insrted.
Quite a rare machine and very important in terms of computing history as this was the first commercially available portable computer.

In good clean physical condition. It has been tested by plugging it in and the fan works and the keyboard light comes on but the picture on my LCD telly is terrible.
The picture is rolling on the screen very quickly so I can't really make out what is going on!However, there is text and when I hit certain keys the text changes significantly, so I *think* it is working and just incompatible with my new LCD telly perhaps. I have read lots of times that machines like ZX80's etc only really work on older tellys.
I can't promise that this machine is fully working but my basic tests are kinda promising.
There are yellow school security markings on the right hand side but I reckon these could be removed with a little elbow grease.
